Bethesda Christian Broadcasting KSLT FM/KLMP FM/KTPT FM is a religious broadcaster as defined by the regulations of the Federal Communications Commission. See 47 C. F. R. § 73.2080 (c)(1); Review of the Commission’s Broadcast and Cable Equal Employment Opportunity Rules and Polices, 17 FCC Rcd. 24018 (2002). As a religious broadcaster, Bethesda Christian Broadcasting established a religious qualification for all employee positions at KSLT/KLMP/KTPT. In accordance with the FCC’s rules, Bethesda Christian Broadcasting makes reasonable, good faith efforts to recruit applicants, without regard to race, color, national origin or gender, among those who are qualified based for employment on their religious belief or affiliation. Recruitment Initiatives:

 

December 1, 2009 through November 30, 2009 – Office Internship – We offer an internship program where we teach individuals general office and computer skills. These skills may include receptionist duties of answering the phones, meeting and greeting walk-in customers, various donor mailings, using the computer for data entry, doing some clerical work for the traffic, accounting and studio departments, and various other general office duties. We had fourteen (14) individuals throughout the year who worked as interns. The interns worked a total of 367.25 hours.

 

Outreach Activities:

 

On December 19, 2008, family with four children and mother met with employees, toured each radio studio and learned about the function of each station. The tour was given by Tom Schoenstedt.

 

On December 22, 2008, a disabled gentlemen and his mother were given a tour of the facilities by John Derrek. They were able to meet with all of the staff, tour the studios and produce an actual commercial.

 

On March 12, 2009, Jennifer Crawford, Program Director hosted a lady for a Job Shadow. She was exposed to the aspects of radio programming, seeing a live morning show and all the preparation involved.  Also, she learned how to schedule music and learned about some of the behind the scene decisions that go into Hills Alive. The job shadow participant asked multiple questions about what it takes to be in radio and the kind of training involved.

On November 17, 2009, a group of 3 sophomores and adult chaperone worked together as a team on putting together the KSLT Christmas Train cars. They learned how to organize a project and work through multiple prizes. The team was supervised by the Office Manager.

 

On November 18, 2009, Dave Masters conducted a radio tour/educational presentation for the sophomore class of Sunshine Bible Academy of Miller, SD. There were a couple dozen of students in attendance and they were shown the basic operational procedures for on-air announcing, production, technical steps, and contesting
