A motorcyclist driving along a mountain road

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is here! Enjoy some helpful resources

Beginning in 1938, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has been a tradition for the Sturgis and Black Hills area. Their 85th ride takes place August 1-10, and 107.1 KSLT wants to make sure it’s a safe time for all who attend as well as for the local communities. Below, we have resources about the Adopt a Biker Program, some of the top rides, and ministries that are involved. We encourage everyone to be praying for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to be filled with ministry opportunities and that everyone stays safe.

Adopt a Biker Program: Help Save Lives on the Road

Riding a motorcycle is inherently risky, with the lack of safety features such as doors, panels, and seatbelts making crashes far more dangerous. But you can play a vital role in increasing the safety of our two-wheeled friends through the “Adopt a Biker Program.”

When you “adopt a rider,” you provide essential distance and coverage to motorcyclists, offering them a layer of protection from the dangers posed by aggressive or inattentive drivers. By following a few simple steps, you can make a significant impact.

How can you help?

It’s easy to contribute to the safety of motorcyclists on the road. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Stay Alert: Keep an eye out for motorcyclists while you’re driving.
  2. Adopt a Rider: When you see a motorcyclist, proactively position your vehicle behind them.
  3. Maintain a Safe Distance: Provide a safe following distance to act as a buffer between the rider and potential hazards like tailgaters, distracted drivers, or aggressive road ragers.

By adopting a rider, you become a shield against the unpredictable elements of road traffic, offering motorcyclists a safer journey. Your attentiveness and willingness to protect can help prevent accidents and save lives.

Participate in the “Adopt a Biker Program” today and make the road a safer place for everyone. Remember, every action counts, and your simple gesture of providing space and coverage can make all the difference. Let’s look out for our fellow two-wheeled travel buddies and ensure they get to their destinations safely.

The Best Rides of Sturgis

There are many great roads to ride during Sturgis. But the best and most famous rides during Sturgis to take are the following:

  • Mount Rushmore – A visit to America’s Shrine of Democracy is on most visitors’ bucket lists. You don’t have to go into Mt. Rushmore National Memorial to see the sculpture from Route 24.
  • Iron Mountain Road – Includes three granite rock tunnels to pass through. You’ll also travel over three pigtail bridges, which are corkscrew structures engineered to curl and pass over themselves for a challenging ride and an upper body workout.
  • Needles HWY – A beautiful ride through granite spires and high mountain lakes.
  • Spearfish Canyon – It’s one ride you must take before you die. The quintessential scenic road adorned with cliffs cut through the gorge, bubbling streams, waterfalls, and striking vistas at every turn.
  • Devils Tower – You won’t regret taking the trip to visit this Close Encounters of a Third Kind lava cone.
  • Badlands – Riders that don’t take the time to see the Badlands are making a mistake. Put this on your to-do list.

The Black Hills of South Dakota have many places to ride a motorcycle, including scenic byways, off-road trails, and other areas.
