This August, 107.1 KSLT, Rapid City, SD put intentional focus on meeting our listeners’ deepest needs for encouragement and prayer. An article from the National Religious Broadcasters, “Meeting the Demand for Worshipful Content: Practical Tips from 2025 Listener Survey” (June 12, 2025), noted that while Christian broadcasting is growing, stations still sometimes hesitate to step into areas that feel uncertain—like live prayer on the air. At KSLT, we felt called to face that challenge directly.
Through our Back-to-School Blessings initiative, our DJs prayed live on the air over teachers, students, and school staff, lifting up the men and women who are shaping the next generation. We also invited listeners to join us in prayer by submitting written prayers through our website and social media, which we then shared on-air. The result was a moving reminder that Christians praying for Christians is one of the simplest, yet most powerful ways the Body of Christ can encourage one another.
But our outreach didn’t stop on the airwaves. KSLT staff attended multiple Back-to-School Nights and Meet-the-Teacher events throughout our home city. There, we handed out station swag along with Faith Tags—pocket-sized cards with a customizable prayer insert for a student or teacher. Parents and children alike were touched to see their local Christian station standing beside them not just as broadcasters, but as fellow believers lifting up their schools in prayer.
This summer reminded us once again that our ministry is more than music. When Christians pray for Christians, communities are strengthened, faith is encouraged, and listeners experience firsthand the heart of Christ-centered media.
