Our Airport Readiness Tour is designed to provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals who may benefit from a little extra support when traveling.
This event is proudly presented in partnership with Rapid City Regional Airport, the City of Rapid City’s Accessibility Committee, and Wondermakers Travel, working together to create more inclusive and supportive experiences for all travelers.
The tour will begin at baggage claim and include a guided walk through the terminal. Participants can explore different areas and get hands-on experience with the check-in process and TSA security procedures. We’ll also provide helpful information about what to expect during screening to help reduce stress or uncertainty.
As part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility, we’re proud to offer the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program. During the tour, guests can pick up a free sunflower lanyard—an optional way to signal that someone may need additional support, time, or understanding while at the airport.
For those interested, the tour can also include an optional bus ride around the airfield, offering a unique, behind-the-scenes look at airport operations!
The friendly Rapid City Regional Airport staff and local leaders will be there every step of the way to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to build confidence and familiarity with air travel in a low-stress, supportive environment!

Schedule of Events
12:00 PM – Meet in the airport baggage claim area
• Welcome & introduction to the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program
• Time for guests to ask questions
12:30 PM – Head to the ticket counters
• Walk through the check-in process
• Review common items to remove from carry-on luggage
1:00 PM – Go through the TSA checkpoint into the concourse
• Highlight sensory-friendly amenities like family restrooms and the Mamava pod
After the checkpoint:
• Board buses for a behind-the-scenes tour of the airport grounds
• For those not joining the bus tour, return to baggage claim or visit booths with information and visit with local representatives!
